Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship, rejecting Trump order 6-3
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Constitution guarantees automatic citizenship to nearly all children born in the United States, striking down President Trump's day-one order that sought to deny it to children of undocumented and temporary-status immigrants. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority, joined by Barrett and Kavanaugh alongside the three liberals. It is a direct win for immigrant families, including the many Indian and South Asian households on H-1B and other temporary visas whose US-born children's citizenship was at stake.
